Microsoft's library, each year you're guaranteed to get a high-quality racer in either the simulation-styleĀ Motorsport games or playful open-worldĀ HorizonĀ titles. While each game attracts its own audience within the racing fan base,Ā Horizon feels like it has the wider reach because of the sheer fun and each entry in the series quickly reminds me why I love Playground Games so much. This latest journey to Great Britain surprises with enough tweaks in systems and locations to keep things fresh by setting a new bar and releasing the greatest racer yet.Ā

While I was critical of last year'sĀ Forza Motorsport 7Ā for feeling like more of the same, despite being awesome,Ā Forza Horizon 4 feels like it has notable leap overĀ 3 even though it shares much of its DNA with the earlier games. EachĀ Forza HorizonĀ takes place in a gorgeous setting and this year's trip to Great Britain feels particularly special considering Playground Games is based out of the UK. When you're put behind the wheel for the game's first race, you'll quickly understand everything you need to know about what this game has to offer. As you're cruising along the road and finishing your first chunk of the beginning race, the world switches seasons to give you a quick look at each of the 4 times of year you'll be driving through.

From that point, you'll level up by winning races, discovering secret cars, and trying out various challenges around the world. Things start out by locking you into specific seasons depending on how far you've progressed into the game before throwing every player into the same season, which changes every week. You'll see a lot of visual variety, but different seasons and weather systems affect how your cars handle. Expect to smash into your fellow Drivatars more often in the winter than you would in a dry summer.

Forza Horizon 3. These races feel as thrilling as ever and they're expertly paced. While the setups feel directly pulled from the previous game, like you against a train, the courses are the most exciting yet and earning a neck and neck win could have you standing and cheering at your screen. That's high praise and if you don't believe it, I'd suggest trying out the game's demo for yourself.Ā

Every otherĀ Forza staple is here, tons of different makes and models, a ridiculous amount of options to tune your car, and top-tier sound and visuals. If you're a racing fan, I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't want to playĀ Forza Horizon 4 and if you're not a fan yet then there's never been a better game to test the genre with.
