The first Nintendo Direct of the decade is hear, and it is all about Pokémon. It was a smaller one for sure, but exciting nonetheless for Trainers who can't get enough Sword and Shield.

Pokémon fans are used to a cycle with each new generation. Two main games to start, then usually a third game that brings in new features of its own. Instead of going in that direction for Pokémon Sword and Shield, Game Freak and Nintendo are embracing the digital age and are instead offering up an expansion with two large DLC expansions that plan to add a couple hundred new monsters to capture, clothing customization for your trainer, and a new area to explore in each pack.

It might feel like a long way out, but the first piece of DLC hitting Sword and Shield is arriving in June in the form of Isle of Armor. On the island, you’ll be able to catch Pokémon both old and new as well as meet new characters that will test your mettle as a Trainer. If you can’t wait, you can even get a small taste of what is to come in a new free update today and catch one of the new Pokémon before the expansion even launches.

The second expansion is called The Crown Tundra and will come sometime after the first. Explore a new, arctic themed area of Galar and take part in new Raid Dens that house a chance to battle and collect fan-favorite legendary Pokémon. The Crown Tundra is similar to the Wild Area from the base game and will house new and exciting Pokémon and Galarian forms of existing monsters. Another perk of the Expansion is the ability to unlock a special outfit exclusive to the .

For those dedicated players with monsters saved across multiple games and platforms, they will be happy to know that they will soon be able to pool their catches in one place soon with "Pokémon Home". The service is compatible with Pokémon GO, Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu, and Sword and Shield, with the 3DS games’ "Pokémon Bank", also being ed so no monster is left behind. Some of the “new” monsters that are making their return in the DLC expansions, but if you have caught them in a previous game you’ll be able to transfer them from "Home" into Sword and Shield, just as long as the Pokémon in question appears in the game. "Pokémon Home" is due out in February of this year.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is Coming to Switch 4k2m6y

A favorite for some, the original pair of Pokémon dungeon crawlers Pokémon Rescue Team is coming back in a new, remade form as Rescue Team DX. This new version will combine both the original Red and Blue Rescue Team games into one package and it has an all-new art-style thanks to the power of the Switch. The remake is set to release this March 6th, adding yet another title to an already packed year of game releases.
